Charlotte Gastroenterology & Hepatology is excited to announce the addition of Dr. Nicole R. Cullen to its outstanding team of physicians. She will be seeing patients in the Huntersville office.
A graduate of Boston University, Dr. Cullen received her medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh. She and her husband fell in love with the Carolinas while he was at Duke and she was completing her residency at the University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill. They enjoyed experiencing North Carolina’s climate with its four seasons, the friendly culture, and the proximity to both the beach and the mountains. This made for an easy decision to move to Charlotte after Dr. Cullen completed her gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Maryland Medical Center.
Dr. Cullen knew from an early age that she liked helping people and originally planned on a career as a clinical psychologist. This led her to medical school to begin a path toward the field of psychiatry. However, she quickly realized through clinical rotations that she had a greater interest in physiology and organ systems.
Being a gastroenterologist, she likes the fact that her time is spent equally between performing procedures and seeing patients in a clinical setting. Her professional interests include celiac disease, esophageal disorders, and hepatology. It’s important to Dr. Cullen that her patients feel heard. Her patient care philosophy is to distill sometimes complicated medical information into manageable parts so that her patients understand their disorders and can therefore share in the decision-making process.
A native of Pennsylvania, Dr. Cullen is a Phillies fan but pulls for the New England Patriots when it comes to football. During her free time, she enjoys running, playing tennis, and traveling. Dr. Cullen and her husband, who also practices medicine, live in Charlotte with their two young children.
