Charlotte's Leading Independent GI Practice
In the 1990s, Charlotte’s healthcare landscape began to shift. Recognizing how these changes could impact patient access and quality of care, seven physicians came together in 1998 to form Charlotte Gastro. Their goal was simple but ambitious: to remain independent so that patients would always come first.

Despite increasing pressure from large healthcare systems and venture-capital-backed groups to consolidate physician practices, we remained committed to staying independent and delivering the highest quality of care. Remaining private required innovation and strong partnerships, and we cultivated collaborative relationships with local hospitals and reimagined how specialty care could be delivered while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.
Charlotte Gastro became the first medical group in Charlotte to perform the majority of GI procedures in our own offices rather than in hospitals. This approach improved access, reduced costs, and increased efficiency while maintaining the same level of safety as hospital-based care. As our model proved successful, other practices across the region adopted similar approaches.
